Bronze rye straw, for which work?
Prized in the fine crafts for its fineness, suppleness and satin sheen, bronze rye straw brings a bronze, metallic warmth. It is traditionally used for straw marquetry (furniture, decorative panels), traditional chair re-seating, the restoration of antique furniture and creative hobbies.
Working rye straw
For marquetry, the straw is opened, flattened and glued onto a support to reveal its smooth, satin surface. For chair re-seating, prefer a raw, unflattened rye straw, lightly dampened to gain suppleness. A living material, its structure and the shade obtained after dyeing may vary from one batch to another.
A rare straw, grown in France and sourced since 1850
A rare, hard-to-find plant material, Maison Douineau rye straw is of superior quality, from long, even stems, packaged for immediate work—the fruit of demanding sourcing cultivated since 1850. To preserve its shine, dust with a soft, dry cloth and avoid direct sunlight. To get started, find our ideas in the Vannerie DIY universe and Our advice.
